About MPDRI.
Mornington Peninsula Dog Rescue Inc. (MPDRI) is a community of committed individuals who volunteer their time to rescue abandoned and at-risk dogs. Focusing primarily on medium to large mixed breeds, this rescue group manages and facilitates the end to end process of providing a second chance for dogs with the view of permanent placement via adoption to suitable applicants.
Initial collection, transport, medical care and rehabilitation, training and love are all key elements of our dog foster process. Our goal is to care, nurture and love a foster dog until they are ready to be adopted.
Many of our dogs are saved from pounds and kill shelters across Victoria and the east coast of Australia. We do not have a shelter, so our rescued dogs are place with foster carers immediately who dedicate their time and energy to ensuring the dog feels safe and gets the required medical attention ASAP.
The dogs are mostly entire, bitches can sometimes be pregnant, and almost all come with some form of anxiety, mistrust or fear. With love, dedication and patience, our foster carers give these dogs the time and opportunity to show us who they really are. And when that time and patience is invested, with a little medical care and a lot of love, these dogs come into their own and attract the best people who want to adopt them forever.
With no government funding, MPDRI is run and staffed by a group of committed volunteers who co-ordinate, fundraise, foster, train and assess dogs that come into the foster program. Each dog comes into the rescue from their own unique situation, which is never their fault. The MPDRI team assesses each dog on a case by case basis, determines a best-fit foster carer based on temperament, activity levels & medical needs. Dogs are placed with foster carers along with a care pack containing food, bedding, toys, lead & collar.
MPDRI does not rely on foster carers to fund the ongoing care of dogs, so fundraising activities and donations are critical. Our fundraising activities consist of raffles, auctions, garage sales and Bunnings sausage sizzles. We are grateful for all donations, whether they are financial or otherwise. Dog food, bedding and other equipment that assists in the ongoing care and rehabilitation of foster dogs is particularly helpful as it frees up fundraised monies for medical costs.
Our foster dogs are all vet checked, microchipped, vaccinated flea & worm treated and de-sexed prior to adoption, meaning our dogs are immediately ready to start their new second life with their new family.

Care when they need it most
Why foster a dog?
Do you have room in your home and your heart for a dog for a few weeks? Then foster caring may be for you! Are there perks to fostering a dog? YES!!! If you fall in love, then you are given priority for adoption at a discount! If you are unsure of which dog breed suits your family, fostering can be a fantastic opportunity to experience different breeds without the full-time commitment.
Volunteer
Make a difference
We warmly welcome volunteers who are willing to assist us with our fundraising events, dog transportation and many other associated duties as required. If you possess a skill that you believe could benefit our rescue efforts, we would love to hear from you.
