Floyd — Our Gentle Giant Ready for His New Beginning

If ever there was a dog who deserved a soft landing, it’s Floyd. After everything he’s lived through, this big-hearted boy has met the world with nothing but kindness, bravery, and a quiet, hopeful love. Every day he’s been learning, blooming, and finding his feet — and now his fresh start finally feels close enough to touch.

Floyd is a big, dog-friendly lad with oceans of love to give. This gentle giant is bursting with personality and charm, and is desperately searching for a human who will treasure him for life.

Family Structure

  • Dog Friendly: Yes — adores other dogs but forgets his size

  • Cat Friendly: No

  • Kids: Best suited to homes with teens 14+ (or giant-dog savvy)

  • Training: Halti trained, house trained, learning commands

Personality & Quirks

Floyd is a big, soft soul wrapped in an even bigger body. He LOVES his walks — truly, his tail becomes a helicopter — but don’t expect a marathon partner. Once he’s decided he’s done, he will plop down dramatically and declare the world his rest spot.

He thrives around his humans, soaking up cuddles and scratches like they’re sunshine. But he’s also perfectly fine being left home alone:

  • No destruction

  • No escaping

  • No barking or whining

  • No fence jumping

  • No drama — just naps and dreams

He’s learning quickly, especially with the magic combo of praise and affection. He already knows sit, stay, and back — and he melts every time he hears “good boy.”

Important Notes

Floyd does resource guard high-value food items — understandable given his past. For example, he once found a piece of chicken in the outside bin, knocked it over, and growled when someone walked past. With management (like moving bins out of reach), he does beautifully.

With dogs, he’s social and friendly, but he doesn’t understand boundaries or cues. He barrels in wanting to play and doesn’t always listen when another dog says “enough!” A tolerant, sturdy doggy companion would be ideal.

His Ideal Home

Floyd dreams of a place where he can sprawl on the floor beside you, snore softly, and feel like he finally belongs.

He’d suit:

  • A home with confident, experienced humans

  • Teens or adults only

  • Either as an only dog, or paired with a patient, tolerant doggy friend

  • Someone who enjoys gentle walks, easy days, and a whole lot of cuddles

Versatile and people-loving, Floyd is equally happy lounging the day away or tagging along on your adventures with more practice and training.

What He Loves Most

  • Cuddles & scratches

  • Snoozing at your feet

  • Being told he’s a “good boy”

  • Short walks with big enthusiasm

  • Simply being close to his humans

Floyd has carried a heavy past, but his future is wide open — bright, hopeful, and waiting for the right person to step in and love him the way he’s always deserved.

If you think that person might be you… we’d love to hear from you.
